New Support Services, and Support Subscription Offered
Posted by John Seymour on 2006/1/9 8:51:58 (3767 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowI am currently offering a new service at WarPigW2.com. The new service is a Premium Support Service.

Do you need extra help maintaining your Web site?

If so, subscribe to this service and receive the extra administrative help needed.

This will give you access to this sites support ticket system, plus other premium services to be added in the future.

I offer a subscription that applies to access to the sites ticket system, and repairs or maintenance charges will be negotiated on a per incident basis.

Also I am offering several routine maintenance options with a onetime charge.

New Site, TutorialMasters.com, Opens Today
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/12/17 21:22:46 (3322 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowI have been working on launching a new site for a while now. It will be a different type of site than this, but will center around tutorials and custom tutorial development.

The site is now open and accepting user registrations, content is sparse (to say the least), but as I get the time, and with feedback from the users the content should start growing at a steady pace as this site has.

It will be a site of more generalized tutorials, still working out ways to categorize and display them in a logical fashion. But it will also be a service to develop custom flash tutorials for software developers or web service providers.

WarPigw2.com on it's own VPS now
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/10/15 4:20:48 (3404 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowWarpigw2.com has upgraded hosting several times. First we had standard hosting at American Hosting which offered quality standard hosting with several hundred megabytes of space. Then there was high performance web hosting at PerfectSQL.com which offered 1000 MB of space and 30 gigs of bandwidth. The SQL server was on a separate machine for performance. A well tuned shared hosting service.
I have decided to change hosts again, this time looking for a solution to completely control the server settings for my site.

WarPigW2 Shop Opens
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/5/25 2:51:55 (3336 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowWell I downloaded and installed the CafePress module. It is a very nice module that displays images of shop items on your website. When you click a link under the picture you are sent to the actual shop on cafepress.com.

I have made some (not very good) images for some keepsakes for the XOOPS Tutorials located on this site.

A Big Thank You to You
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/4/30 12:12:53 (3171 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowI posted in the Xoops.org News (as I will in the future) about a new section in my flash tutorials, the Newbb 2 Flash Tutorials. The traffic to these tutorials have been great, and thanks for the votes telling me that these types of tutorials are useful.

Also about the same time, Xoops released version 2.0.10. In the released news comments I saw a lot of repeat questions, and answers, that for someone that never had updated, would still be hard for them to visualize. So on the spur of the moment, I threw together the Xoops System Upgrade Flash Tutorial. I say threw together because I completed it, and submitted a news article on Xoops.org in the morning before work.

Upgraded my Site yet Again
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/4/14 0:44:07 (2222 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowThe last time I used a title like this it was when I switched from Mambo to Xoops. Well this time I am not switching. Xoops is a great CMS, and as far as I am concerned, the best.

As you may know I started this site as an upgrade to a static page site I had for a number of years. Being static, the site became stagnate, as updating the pages was time consuming to say the least. Let me give a little background of this site since I moved to Xoops.

Article Submissions
Posted by John Seymour on 2005/3/18 23:54:53 (2175 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new windowHi everyone.

I can see from some of the post in the articles module that there is some misguidance to it's use. So I will need to clarify what the articles (as in News) submissions should entail.

All registered users are able to submit articles, and I do not want to change that. Before you submit an article, make sure that the following applies or your submission will not be approved.

1. The article must adhere to an actual topic. If a topic is not available that covers your article, contact the webmaster for a suggested topic.

2. Articles are to consist of an opening paragraph (or teaser) followed by the extend tag, then no less than three paragraphs following the extend tag.

No one liners. If you have just something to say to everyone, use the forum.

3. An article should be an actual news event, not an announcement. For announcements use the forum.

Any questions please contact me.

And as usual: Enjoy the information. Give feedback. And have fun.

2nd Month with Xoops
Posted by John Seymour on 2004/12/25 12:42:03 (1946 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new window Well over the last month I have made a lot of changes. I think the speed issues of site loading are under control. Although queries are high, 60 to 120, the site still loads well.

Module wise I upgraded Newbb1 to Newbb2. I am happy with the discussion board layout and functionality. I migrated from the Xoops News 1.2.1 module to the IT-HQ.org's Article Management System (AMS) module. I also modified the backend.php to work with the AMS module. There is two versions available for Download

1. backend.php for AMS only
2. backend.php for both AMS and News

I Like this Theme, but needs a little more....
Posted by John Seymour on 2004/11/28 18:20:00 (1928 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new window Well I think I have settled on this theme for now. It is the 7Dana Round, which I have modified the colors to suit my taste a little more.

I still have a few issues to tackle with this theme, and will be working on them as I have the time.

My front page, for one, I lnow is still crowded and will be settling what exactly I want to show on the front page. But for right now I am still module happy, trying to see how they all work.

One Week with Xoops Technology
Posted by John Seymour on 2004/11/15 0:01:29 (1912 reads)

Click to see original Image in a new window Well I have used Xoops for a week now. It has improved my chances of writing for the website, because it does the coding for me. This gives me time to think about content instead of coding the page for every article.

My next challenge is to clean up and customize the theme for the site. I am still reading trying to get the grip of html with PHP, and Xoops throws in something called Smarty Tags also. Xoops is a wonderful web technology, and makes my web site more productive. My stats have increased and my production has increased.
