Files will have to be backed up via FTP. I usually keep a copy of the files on my local computer. I only update the copy of files when I make a change that adds or removes files from the site (as in add or delete a module), which rarely is done. If you have cPanel you can backup the home directory in gzip format (same thing but much smaller to download).

My main site for instance is almost 200 megs, so as you can see I would not want to regularly download this. This is why I originally download the public_html folder once, then just add or remove files as they are done to the site. The database (where all content is stored) is important to backup regularly. That is why I use the script daily.

I copied a code of my backup of SQL

CREATE TABLE `xoops_avatar` (
  `
avatar_idmediumint(8unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `
avatar_filevarchar(30NOT NULL default '',
  `
avatar_namevarchar(100NOT NULL default '',
  `
avatar_mimetypevarchar(30NOT NULL default '',
  `
avatar_createdint(10NOT NULL default '0',
  `
avatar_displaytinyint(1unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
  `
avatar_weightsmallint(5unsigned NOT NULL default '0',
  `
avatar_typechar(1NOT NULL default '',

PRIMARY KEY  (`avatar_id`),

KEY `avatar_type` (`avatar_type`,`avatar_display`)
ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8;

--
--
Dumping data for table `xoops_avatar`
--

/

--
--
Table structure for table `xoops_avatar_user_link`
--

Then, PhpMyAdmin, wrote:

Quote:
Error

SQL query:

--
-- Dumping data for table `xoops_avatar`
--
/*!40000 ALTER TABLE `xoops_avatar` DISABLE KEYS */;

MySQL said: Documentation
#1065 - Query was empty
