Hello,

I have a question about FTP, timestamps& fast backup.
I'm trying to setup backups to an FTP server which supports MFMT command. When I activate the"Fast Backup" (with or without using archive attribute), then timestamps on the server are NOT correct. Indeed, in the debug log, I don't see any MFMT commands.

However if I disabled"Fast Backup", then SyncBack SE will correctly set timestamps (MFMT commands found in log).

I'm running SyncbackSE V5.17.0.0.

Is it possible to have correct timestamps on the server while using Fast Backup ?

Best regards,
Kako78

I am using SFTP and I've been comparing FileZilla and SyncBackPro. With FileZilla, I can do a maximum of 10 concurrent transfers and with my 100Mbps, I can get to about 80Mbps full throughput. With SyncBackPro, I tried changing the FTP file buffer size to 8M and the Send and Receive to 4M each, but I still only get 1 transfer at a time and only about 5mbps regardless of those settings. It would make sense that I'd get a faster total throughput if SyncBackPro allowed for concurrent transfers. Is that something that can be done?

      Hi

1) Depends if you are using Compression too (note that you do need to 'invoke' Compression to achieve Encryption, but you can set the Compression Level to zero, which means the files just get 'wrapped' in Zips, but not compressed). This is much faster. Sorry, but we don't have statistics on either mode (too many variables, for one thing). You can try it for yourself with a subset of profiles to a test Destination, and compare/decide

2) Not entirely sure what you mean - by selection? Or by the LastModified stamp of the files? (We don't ever base decisions on attributes of folders, and we always/only use LastModified for files.)

If you mean the latter, you can optionally

Ignore files that [have/have not] been modified [since/within the last] [[X] interval] / [date/time]

The setting is on

Modify> Expert> Compare Options> Date/Time

It is important if you use this with the 'rolling' option ('within the last') to check the contextual Help (press F1) on the Date/Time page and familiarize yourself with the rounding/fraction-drop that takes place. For example, 'within the last 24 hours' will include files modified up to 24:59:59 ago (it will ignore file modified 25 hrs ago and older). And so on. There are special considerations for intervals of varying lengths, e.g. months.

I'm not familiar with TotalCommander, but FileZilla certainly does. The point is that the server should be able to cope with either syntax, and seems this one cannot. There's no way to change it, sorry.

'Just the modified' (more precisely, just the files it finds are different: if your Destination is not storing them properly - for example, a buggy NAS - that may be all of them, every run, but that is not our fault - it is a function of the storage of the copies with the wrong attributes)

This is default - there is actually no setting to force it to 'copy all again' (unless you delete all the Destination files, obviously)

Bear in mind you could have tested this yourself with two dummy folders and two dummy files (run profile to copy both, edit/save one file but not the other, then run again: only the edited one should re-copy)

      Hi

Which exact version are you using?

I cannot replicate that with the current V6 (6.0.12.0) - using a Mirror Right as created by the wizard, and test folders\files thus

X:\SourceRoot\ThisIsEmpty\
X:\SourceRoot\ThisIsPopulated\
X:\SourceRoot\ThisIsPopulated\populate.txt

and copying all the 'This...' objects to X:\DestRoot\, if I then

a) run the Restore and point it to an empty dummy folder, it Restores all of them (including the empty one). The \ThisIsEmpty\ folder is not shown as Skip, but as Copy to Source

b) run a Restore against the original X:\SourceRoot\ - in which case, the profile runs& immediately closes with Restore Successful, because they all exist there already anyway

My tests all involved clicking No to any of the optional functions during the Restore wizard.

Bear in mind the Automatic settings (for V6) in Decisions-Files> Folders are (for empty folders, or folders that nothing is copied from), as per the Help

Automatic

The decision SyncBackSE makes for the Automatic option depends upon the type of profile:

[omitted for brevity]

· Restore (copying files from destination/right to source/left): Folders only in the destination/right will be created in the source/left. Restore obviously does not apply to Sync profiles anyway (thus, the Restore option is ghosted on any menu for a Sync profile)

You can change the Decisions- Files> Folders settings before a Restore, and change them back again afterwards, obviously, but remember that Source& Dest are reversed in a Restore...

I was able to manually change Skip to copy to the left side, but that doesn't seem ideal, since sometimes files are supposed to be skipped (due to file filter).

Any suggestions on how to have it restore empty folders? I do see some options under Expert> Decisions - Files> Folders, but would changing that mess up my Mirror Right options?

My profile description says:
If an empty directory is only on Source then the decision is automated.
If an empty directory is only on Destination then the decision is automated.
