According to your suggestion, I right clicked on the mac folder containing my iphoto library file from explorer on the pc and clicked on properties. I saw that the folder was set to read only, and I unchecked this box. Then, I ran SyncBack, and it worked. Thanks for all the information. And thanks for giving me the solution to my problem.

Not if ExtremeCopy is enabled (Modify> Expert> Copy/Delete> bottom option). That's the only setting.

But, see the comments from my colleague (the developer) here

http://2brightsparks.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=7185

about comparative tests& ExtremeCopy in general. You should ideally reboot before trying the opposite setting.

There are all kinds of software on the market that claim to scan your PC fixing all sorts of errors. These frequently (whether or not they also do other things) involve scanning the registry for 'old' or 'corrupt' entries. Some of these utilities can damage things they are not competent to evaluate. A typical problem is that a profile contains a Source or Destination path string including the drive letter of a drive which is not present at the time of the registry scan. Such software may delete or 'helpfully amend' (that is, corrupt) parts of such profiles. Other errors can also happen. It's not guaranteed that was the issue in your case, but it's one of the most frequent reasons users report.

Haha... thanks for the full replay Mike, but you may want to revisit what you think is helpful!

This is only from the SEO point of view though... but then again, as you said, people may be coming from search engines.

No skin off my nose either way though; good luck to youSmile

Hi Dave, thanks for your feedback about the naming of our forum tabs. Unfortunately this is not something we're going to change for a number of reasons, however I do appreciate why regular users might want to do away with seeing the full path to web pages.

Let's take this page as an example. The page provides several key navigational pointers to both the search engines and users, the first of which is the"favicon" which is the logo that appears at the extreme left that you refer to as the logo.

Favicons at the beginning of the path are useful for many users as they provide a quick visual reference that they're on the right site - especially when there are thousands of pages and links that can take users away from a site with a click of the mouse. They're also used as Favorites and Bookmark icons, and show up in the full path that is displayed at the top of browsers.

The words"2BrightSparks" follow the favicon. This"breadcrumb" convention is an important usability convention that both allows the user to acclimatize themselves quickly (asserts the name of the web site), and provides information about how they can easily navigate back to a page or area if the breadcrumb is long. There's simple forum breadcrumb immedately above this post:

2BrightSparks Forum Index -> Ideas and general discussion

Many users arrive at our forum from search engine results, and providing breadcrumbs in the title as well as the main page assists both users and the search engines to navigate and appropriately index our pages.

I appreciate that if a user has a number of tabs open, they will not see the full path on the tab, but with Windows Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6.9 the user need only mouse over the tab and they'll see the full path as a text hint appears with this information. You'll find our main site also provides breadcrumbs to aid the user as they browse our site.

I hope this goes some way in explaining why we'll keep our current system as it conforms to good usability standards, and thanks once again for your feedback - it's always good to revisit navigation to ensure the majority of users get the best browsing experience.

Kind Regards,

Mike de Sousa

Thank you for that.

I used regedit as you said , removed the 2 bad profiles , recreated them and now it seems working.

One thing , you have talked about reg cleaner. What do you mean?

Thank you.

Just purchased Syncback Pro for ExtremeCopy benefit but am finding jobs actually taking longer to complete?

Job is copying 30GB image files from server over 100Mb connection.

Is there some setting I might be missing in the software?

TIA

Hi

Not clear what you mean by"worked fine for years on a Windows XP machine", when this is (according to your post title) also an XP machine. Is it the same PC or a different one?

Whatever is happening I assume somehow when logged in as a batch job (which is how Scheduled Tasks work) the profile is unable to see any files on the Source. Presumably you have it set to delete files that are on Destination but not on Source, so it doesShocked

As you've given no indication what your Source actually is, (nor what the 'remote destination' is either), it's hard to speculate further

(Incidentally, it's probably not copying 'just the folders' from the Source, it's likely that they existed on the Destination already (given that they had files in them before the Task started, they must have...). It's just not deleting them, which unless you tell it to via 'Delete empty folders on Destination', it won't)
